Taking the Shot: Why I’m Finally Making Myself a Priority

For the first time, my son Kyle went to a friend’s house for a sleepover.

Cue the proud mom emotions—and yes, maybe a few tears.

But instead of diving into my usual routine—catching up on work, laundry, or errands—I paused and asked myself a different question:

“What do I want to do with this time?”

And you know what I did?

I booked a private shooting lesson with my Smith & Wesson pistol.

Just me, the range, and a whole lot of energy I needed to release.

Target practice was therapeutic.

It helped me shake off some negativity, center myself, and do something that felt powerful, focused, and—most importantly—mine.

And I did pretty dang well, too.

There was something really satisfying about hitting that target… and realizing I’d just reclaimed a piece of myself in the process.

Why I’m Committing to “Me Time” Every Weekend

I’ve decided this isn’t going to be a one-time thing.

Every weekend, I’m going to make space for an adventure. Something new. Something bold. Something that reminds me that I’m not just a mom, a business owner, or a leader—I’m a whole woman who deserves joy, excitement, and freedom.

I used to skydive. That chapter may be behind me, but this? This might be my next thing.

Maybe even a sport.

But definitely a form of self-care I never saw coming.

The Truth I’ve Come to Own:

I’ve put off this kind of thing for too long.

I told myself it wasn’t the right time, that other things came first.

But here’s what I know now:

I have the means. I have the freedom.

And more than anything—I have the right to make myself a priority.

So that’s exactly what I’m doing.

No more waiting.

No more guilt.

I’m choosing me—on purpose.

And I’m taking the shot. 🎯
